To defrost a turkey safely, the best way to do it is in the fridge in a large roasting tin or dish and in its packaging at a temperature of 4’C. Place on the bottom shelf of the fridge, not coming into contact with other foodstuffs and the meat can defrost safely. Allow 24 hours in the fridge for every 2kg of turkey weight. For example, a frozen turkey of 8kg weight will take 4 days to defrost in the fridge at 4’c.
